EFI Foundation

Building a secure, low-carbon energy future.

View of Earth from space.

The EFI Foundation (EFIF) is dedicated to informing the public on science-based, actionable ways to address the climate crisis and accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy.

EFIF builds on the legacy work of the Energy Futures Initiative (EFI), a nonprofit organization co-founded in 2017 and led by Ernest J. Moniz, the 13th U.S. Secretary of Energy.

We’ve been honored to be their partners since the beginning. We provide strategy, editing, design (both web and print), and data visualization to better explain EFIF’s groundbreaking research and thought leadership to the world.

Matt Mansfield and his stellar team have been invaluable partners from Day One of the EFI Foundation. Talented, responsive, imaginative, and on time, every time. We look forward to many more years of partnership.”

– Ernest J. Moniz, Founder and CEO, EFI Foundation

Major Projects

Energy Jobs Report

Designed and visualized the U.S. Energy and Employment Report (USEER). This in-depth survey was established at the U.S. Department of Energy under Moniz and taken over by EFI after the Trump administration abandoned the report. That reporting project, a joint effort of EFI and the National Association of State Energy Officials (NASEO), was handed back to DOE in 2021. Our team has been there every step of the way and continues to support DOE with this work.

Partnership Projects

Created the website, data visualizations, and report designs for the EFI partnership with the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) known as the Labor Energy Partnership (LEP), which conducts policy-relevant research and makes policy recommendations to build a clean energy future.

New Department of Energy Initiative

We assisted EFI with a geospatial tool and database for the U.S. Hydrogen Demand Action Plan, which outlined strategies to kickstart the offtake of clean hydrogen. The tool helps policymakers and project developers consider a broad range of market-enabling conditions. In January 2024, the U.S. Department of Energy selected EFIF to lead a consortium charged with helping to accelerate the commercial adoption of clean hydrogen. We recently designed and developed its standalone website at H2DI.org.

Impact

EFIF research and analyses have informed more than 10 federal initiatives, including the establishment of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations.
